The Sonata #6 Project celebrates the use of geometric abstraction to examine a variety of complex ideas in response to a solo piano sonata composed by Ryan Charles Ramer. The goal is to discover how music is interpreted through color but also in visual rhythm and composition. The question at hand: which responses become personalized and which develop as universal?
The somber, repetitive, staccato nature of the music recall images of geometric abstraction. The artists’ works reveal connections between intergenerational history, the impact that we have on nature, expressions of the human condition, and explorations of unseen forces, each reflect the weight of Sonata #6.
Sonata #6 is a 28-minute composition in three parts performed by Cleveland pianist Nicholas Underhill, a member of No Exit New Music Ensemble and the Cleveland Chamber Collective.
