Matthew Gallagher, Cluster, 2021, Ink on paper, 25 x 50 inches

Matthew Gallagher develops programs based on mathematics, science, and external forces. In Cluster, Gallagher set out to make precise marks in ink and then submerged the drawing in a solution allowing for chance to transform the final work of art. Each circle represents one of the three movements in the sonata. A bold black outline shows how each movement is contained within itself, while the aura created by the chemical bath shows how the sonata is interconnected.
