Jan Zorman, With a Bang, 2021,
Construction with yarn and monofilament, 71 x 60 x 4 inches

Jan Zorman Artist Statement:

The piece evolved from my response to the music. In both there is this movement and balance, then falling. I saw three-dimensional columns or buildings crashing down but not destroyed. The piece is conceptual and physical. The columns have no mass and no weight. It is a three-dimensional drawing.

I’ve been working with this process of using yarn and monofilament to create lines in space for many years. The yarn is the ink in the bottle that draws the lines and the monofilament is the somewhat invisible structure that holds it all together.

I am grateful for assistance with the installation by my niece, Lindsey Gander.
